The Top 4 Most Popular Dog Breeds

The American Kennel Club (AKC) recently announced the list with the most popular dog breeds for 2014, according to the dogs that are registered on their database. Let’s see the breeds that managed to conquer the first 4 spots!

1)    Labrador Retriever: The Labrador Retriever is one of many breeds of the retriever hunting type. Extremely loyal and intelligent, Labradors are one the most popular pet breeds in numerous countries. While they still serve the purpose for which they were initially bred, which is retrieving small downed waterfowl, they are also adept at a number of other jobs including leading the blind, acting as hearing dogs, and police and military work. Their kind nature, obedience, and knack for getting along with children also gives them the reputation of being the ideal pet. While very hard working, their active friendly and outgoing nature makes also excellent family dogs. They have a medium size but are highly energetic so they need frequent exercise. 2)    German Shepherd: An intelligent and capable working dog. His devotion and courage are unmatched. And he's amazingly versatile, excelling at most anything he's trained to do: guide and assistance work for the handicapped, police and military service, herding, search and rescue, drug detection, competitive obedience and, last but not least, faithful companion. Its large size and medium energy levels makes this dog a perfect match for those who run around the block occasionally and want a loyal friend to accompany them. A German Shepherd has a confident personality and is pretty smart too, so training them will be super easy and fun. 3)    Golden Retriever: Many confuse this breed with the Labrador Retriever. And while might seem kind of similar to those who are not truly relevant with the dog breeds, for most people the differences are clear. The Golden Retriever is a sturdy, medium-large sized dog. Lovable, well-mannered, intelligent and with a great charm. They are easily trained, and always patient and gentle with children. Charming, devoted and self-assured, they are a popular family dog. Energetic and loving, Golden Retrievers enjoy pleasing their masters, so obedience training can be very rewarding. They excel in competitions. Friendly with everyone, including other dogs, the Golden Retriever has very little, if any, guarding instincts the only case in which they can protect you is if the thief hates getting licked by a dog. And here’s a pretty random but interesting fact about the Golden Retrievers. They can get a raw egg on their mouth without cracking it! This means that they have a very gentle bite. Bulldog: Bulldogs originally were used to drive cattle to market and to compete in a bloody sport called bullbaiting. Today, they're gentle companions who love kids. A brief walk and a nap on the sofa is just what this dog breed needs. It is described as a very affectionate and dependable animal, gentle with children, but known for its courage and its excellent guarding abilities. Bullheaded and determined, this breed can be very persistent. They do not give up easily. Bulldogs are very much a people's dog, seeking out human attention and loving every bit they can get!
