Types of Asbestos

Asbestos is group of six silicates naturally occurring in nature and  formed from metamorphic rocks. Asbestos were once considered a miracle due to their highly desired properties for industrial uses such as tensile strength, fire resistance, poor conductor of heat and electricity, etc. Asbestos were used in many commodity products such as pipes, insulators, roofs etc. However, this miracle mineral had a deadly consequences. Though asbestos is non-harmful in its bound from, it is highly toxic when its silky crystals are present in breathing air. Once inhaled asbestos permanently gets stuck in human lungs and it is completely immune to self-cleaning mechanism of human lungs.

The six recognized asbestos are :

1 Tremolite Asbestos (Ca2Mg5Si8O22(OH)2)

2 Actinolite Asbestos (Ca2(Mg,Fe)5Si8O22(OH)2)

3 Anthophyllite Asbestos ( (Mg,Fe)7Si8O22(OH)2)

4 Chrysotile Asbestos (Mg3Si2O5(OH)4)

5 Amosite Asbestos ((Mg, Fe)7Si8O22(OH)2)

6 Crocidolite Asbestos (Na2Fe32+Fe23+Si8O22(OH)2)
