Avery Johnson

Born on 25 March, 1965 in Louisiana, United States of America, Avery Johnson spent most of his childhood days growing up in America. He started playing basketball at very young age. In St. Augustine High School he led his team to a record 35-0 win in State Championship. He did his matriculation from New Mexico Junior College, later moving to Cameron University and Southern University for his higher studies. Although Avery had very good performances to his name still he could not make it to the draft after graduation. He joined Palm Beach Stingrays for the first time as a professional basketball player.

Johnson could not establish himself as a regular for any team and spent his playing career mostly moving around from one club to the other. In his playing career, he played for some of the best clubs such as Seattle SuperSonics, Golden State Warriors, Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs. His best performances came for the San Antonio Spurs. On Feb 20, 2009, he was introduced to the San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame.

He retired from the playing career on 20 October 2004. After retirement, he turned to the coaching. His first stint as a manager was being the assistant coach under Don Nelson for the Dallas Mavericks. Within five months he was promoted to the position of Head Coach. Dallas started playing well as soon as he became the Head Coach. For the first month as the coach, he was awarded the NBA Best Coach of the Month award. Dallas ended the first season under Avery by a 16-2 run. Success followed the second year as well for Avery. He bagged another coach of the month award in November 2005. In 2006 he earned the best coach of the year award becoming the fastest coach to succeed one-hundred games by defeating the Denver Nuggets on 31st of December 2006. In the year 2008, he left working as a coach and started working as a studio analyst for ESPN and ABC. He was appointed as the head coach of New Jersey Nets on June 10, 2010. He worked there for the next two years calling his coaching career off on 27 December 2012.

On July 6th, 1991 Avery married his college girlfriend Cassandra Merricks. He has two children together with his wife, named Avery Jr. and Christianne. He keeps the low profile as he wants his children to have the normal life and not a life of always being surrounded by cameras. He also takes part in charity and other volunteering programs. He has not written his biography yet but it's on the cards and should be out in a couple of years.

It is estimated that he gets a salary of around $2.8 million from his current team Alabama Crimson Tide. He also gets some money from other business as well.
