Eoin Morgan

Eoin Joseph Gerard Morgan is an English cricketer who is at present the captain of the English One Day and Twenty-20 teams. He was born on 10th September 1986 at Dublin, Ireland. His parents are Jody Morgan and Olivia Morgan. His family comprises of four siblings- Laura, Gareth, Gwen and Gavin. His present girlfriend is Tara Ridgway. Eoin goes by the nickname “Moggie”. He is a stylish left handed batsman. Being Irish by birth, Morgan started his international cricket career playing for Ireland, later switching over to the English side. He is only the second player in cricket history to score ODI centuries for both England and Ireland.

Morgan studied at Catholic University School in Dublin. His keen interest in hurling helped him to develop himself as a batsman. His brief attendance at Dulwich College encouraged him for playing in the English cricket team. Morgan played for the Irish national team in the under 15, under 17 and under 19 teams and also played in the 2004 and 2006 Under 19 Cricket World Cups.

Eoin Morgan made his debut in first class county cricket in England on 5th July, 2008, playing for the Middlesex side. He impressed everyone with his batting style as he notched up a brilliantly crafted century. Morgan was a part of the Middlesex side when they won the 2008 T-20 Cup. His captaincy skills came to the fore when he was selected as captain of the Middlesex side at the young age of 22 and led his side to victory against Kent in the County Championship.

Morgan started his Indian Premier League (IPL) career in 2010 when he was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore side at a price of 220000 dollars. In 2011, he started playing for Kolkata Knight Riders till 2015, when he was bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad team. Morgan’s international career started with playing for Ireland on 5th August 2006 against Scotland. Morgan represented Ireland in 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup. He played 23 international matches for Ireland which also included a double century against UAE- which is a first in Irish cricket history.

Eoin was named the twelfth man for the English team for the match against West Indies in May 2007. He slowly forged his place in the regular English squad and was selected in the 2009 ICC World T-20 championship. Morgan impressed everyone with his batting and fielding skills and was a regular in the English side in the series against strong teams such as West Indies, Australia and South Africa during 2009. From 2010 onwards , he was a permanent member of the starting eleven and enjoyed good form against almost all test playing nations. He made his Test debut against Bangladesh in the same year.

He was instrumental in England winning the 2010 ICC World T-20 championship. Morgan’s first stint as captain was in 2013. He was named captain permanently on 19th December 2014 before the ICC Cricket World Cup to be held in 2015. According to ESPN Cricinfo,“his elevation to the captaincy coincided with one of his worst periods of form since switching to England from Ireland but once the selectors had decided to dispense with Alastair Cook, Morgan, the regular deputy, was the most obvious candidate”. Till present day he has led the English side in the ODI and T-20 matches. His net worth as on date is 2.3 million pounds.
