Gerg Chappell

Greg was born on 7 August 1948. He was born in Australia. Greg’s father’s name is Martin Chappel and his mother’s name is Jeane Richardson. His parents had two other sons apart from him. It is known that Greg’s grandfather was also cricketer and his name was Victor Richardson. His childhood was spent in South Australia along with his family and it is known that he completed his education from St. Leonards Primary School. Since a very early age, Greg had been fond of cricket and the credit goes to his maternal grandfather. After completing his schooling, he went to Plmpton High school.

His career basically started in school as he used to play for the school team and he performed extremely well in the matches that he played. Soon, Greg was introduced to first class cricket and he performed well as a bowler as well batsman. His first series was a match against India and South Africa. Later, Greg started playing for the national team and he used to play more of test matches as well as ODI. After playing for couple of years in Australian team, Greg was declared as the captain of the team. He had been famous for his batting.

While he was the captain, the team played 48 matches out of which the team was able to win 21 matches only and 14 were a tie. This was not the performance which was expected hence a few matches later, Greg announced his retirement. After taking retirement from the game in 1984, this former cricketer got a chance to work as selector in Australia and he had this opportunity from 1984 to 1988. Later, he became the coach of South Australian Team.

It was also reported that Greg worked as a Consultant for the cricket team of Pakistan. Later in 2005, Greg got a chance to work as a coach for the Indian cricket team. He was given the responsibility on a two year contract. At that point of time, it was reported that he was paid around 175 thousand Dollars by Indian cricket board. But Greg was widely criticized for his role in Indian cricket because of a lot of controversies. Later in 2010, he was again elected as a selector for Australian team.

Greg had been involved in some of the major controversies. One of the widely known incident was when he was involved in an illegal move during a match in New Zealand. He was heavily criticized and he later apologised for the same. Greg had also been involved in an ugly fight with Sourav Ganguly. It was reported that Sourav was dropped from the team because of Greg’s influence on the board. Greg also released a book and he again attracted controversy after making comments about Rahul Dravid in his book. Greg’s present salary is not known as it was reported that he doesn’t works anymore. His net worth is also not public.
