Sir Ian Terence Botham was born in the neighborhood of Liverpool. His parents are Violet Marie and Herbert Leslie Botham. His parents were fond of playing cricket. He attended Milford junior school of Yeovil in the Somerset and the love affair he had with sports started there. He played the Somerset Under-15s and he left Bucklers Mead Comprehensive School when he was 15 years old and wanted to play for Somerset County Cricket Club but he was also given the chance of playing in Crystal Palace F.C, to play football.

Sir Ian Terence Botham became an English Test team captain in his professional career He became a genuine all-rounder in the Test Cricket and he scored 5,200 runs with 14 centuries. He got 383 wickets while fielding that was mostly held with slips had 120 catches. In the first class cricket, he was able to score 189,399 runs for the first average of 33.97, he took wickets of 1,172 and averaged at 27.22 while he held 354 catches. He played mostly at Somerset and for also Durham and for Worcestershire. He was in the season of 1987-88 when Australia was playing with Queensland. He has fielding and batting averages that were considered to be the top of his class.

In 2009, he was inducted into ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.

Ian Botham got married to Kathryn Botham in the year 1976 in Doncaster. His wife is now called Lady Botham. They first met in 1974. They have three children together. Their son, Liam born in 1977 was a rugby and cricketer player before his retirement. Ian and Kathryn also raised two daughters. His family is now living in Almeria, in the country of Spain and he has two houses there.

Ian Botham is a football fan and a passionate supporter of Chelsea. He is a vice president for the Scunthrope United Football Club. He is also passionate when it comes to playing golf and he is an avid salmon and trout angler. He is a presenter of Botham on the Fly where he has guests such as Chris Tarrant, Mike Atherton, and Eric Clapton.
