Jeremiah Ostriker

Jeremiah Ostriker took birth in New York in 1937. He was born to white parents of American nationality. He has been a very good student all through his life as he got good grades in his school as well as in college. For his schooling, he went to St John’s School in New York. He later went to Harvard for his higher education.

He got a degree in physics from the famous Harvard University. There he studied under an Indian physicist. He has always talked about his mentor in great light and was very impressed by his knowledge. He also studied at the Cambridge University however he was there just for a year. He, however, wanted to do research and couldn’t get time from teaching students. Since then he has been teaching at the famous Princeton College as a professor. He has been ever present in the education system of the university.

He has been very intellectual as could be seen from his books that he has written. He has a very big contribution to the astrophysics as he has devised many theories the most important of which is the theory of dark matter. His biggest contribution to the physics has been the story of the invisible universe.

According to this theory, the most part of the universe in invisible to human-designed devices and so can't be seen but the effect is present. According to his theory, there is a lot of matter in the universe which can't be seen by the human eye and hence isn’t visible and also can't is measured. He coined the term dark matter to call that invisible part of the universe. The dark matter according to his theories make up the most of the universe. He also said that most of the universe is made up of dark matter and what we see is only a small fraction of it. His theory has been proven right by many of the scientific findings in the current years. 

He has won many awards for his exceptional work in the field of astrophysics. In 1972 he got the Helen Warner awards for his theory on dark matter. Apart from that he has also received fellowships from different universities around the worked. He however couldn’t get the Nobel Prize in the field as someone else was chosen for it.

Apart from that he has also been awarded the Royal Astronomical Society Gold Medal in 2004 which is given to the best in the field. His long list of awards shows how good he has been in his work. He is a married to Alicia Ostriker and has two children with his wife. His net worth is estimated to be around $40 million.
