Aloysius Paulus "Louis" Maria van Gaal was born on August 8, 1951 in Amsterdam. He was raised along with eight siblings. His father was an ordinary man and worked as a salesman. At first Louis played for the Amsterdam amateur side RKSV de Meer. In the 1971 he joined to the second Ajax team. He spent about four years by playing in Belgium. Afterwards he returned to native Netherland. He becomes a member of Eredivisie and made his debut as manager for SC Telstar team. In the 1986 he became assistant coach for Alkmaar Zaanstreek Club. His career on this position was pretty short and later in the 1991 he enrolled to Ajax again but at this time he became a manager after Leo Beenhakker left.
He was Ajax manager during 1991-1997. It was very successful time. In the season of 1994-1995 his team was unbeaten during the Champions League. They showed the same result in the 1996. After the year on manager position, Ajax got their UEFA Cup and three years after team won in the Champions League.After his contract was ended Louis moved to Football Club Barcelona. During 1997 – 1999 under his leadership Barcelona team won La Liga titles twice. They also won Copa del Rey. After his crush during the season in the 2000 Louis left Barcelona and moved back to his native land.
Louis becomes a manager of Netherlands national team and was involved to preparation for 2002 FIFA World Cup. His start in the Netherlands national team was pretty bad, during 2002 World Cup team showed weak results and got only third place by beating Andorra, Cyprus and Estonia with a good scores. Before new football season of 2002-2003 was begin, Van Gaal decided to return to Barcelona Club. He signed a three years deal until June of 2005. During this season Barcelona won 10 amazing matches in the Champions League and reached La Liga. In the 2004, Louis returned to Ajax with a new position of a technical director, but left again because seriously conflict with manager Koeman. Van Gaal becomes a manager of AZ in the 2005, he signed a four year deal and under his leadership AZ team got a second place in the 2005–06 season and third in the next year. In the 2008 AZ lost their positions in the Champions League and Louis announced on the press conference that he would leave. During the last years he was manager of Manchester United.
He was grown up as a Catholic. He was married to Fernanda Obbes. He met his future wife when he was just eighteen years old. The couple married after three years of dating. Louis has two children. His loved one Fernanda died in the 1994 because of pancreatic cancer. Later in the 2008 according to wiki he was married again to Truus Van Gaal.
