He made his debut in 2009 in Ford Ranger Cup. In the same year, he played against India in Under-19 squad. He became the captain of the team in 2010. In the same year, he was drafted to Deccan Chargers of IPL. In 2011, he was selected in Sahara Pune Warriors where his father was a coach. He is a right-hand all-rounder. He is a medium-fast bowler. He has played for Australia A in 2014. He broke the record for second highest 7th wicket partnership of Australia in the same year.

His international test debut was in 2014 against Pakistan. In 2011, he was a part of Australia T20 team. He also became a part of Australia ODI team after Brett Lee’s injury.
