Amy Mathews was born on May 19, 1973, in Minnesota. She was raised in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. There is no any information about her parents, siblings and early years. She studied at the Boston University. Afterwards, she continued at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York. After her lessons there she moved back to Minnesota, where she worked for the Guthrie Theatre, the Minnesota Opera, Hey City Theatre, Mixed Blood Theatre, and Open Eye Figure Theatre.

Later, thanks to her educations, she started her successful career on television. Amy served as a host for “Sweat Equity” show as well as for “Renovation Raiders”. She also involved in numerous regional commercials, including the 3M Scotch-Blue painter's tape and HomeAdvisor. Amy is also known as the latter's Home Improvement Advisor. She appeared in numerous TV programs and shows on yoga.

She also had played main roles in several independent movies like “How to Kill a Mockingbird”, “Justice” and “Into Temptation”. Additionally to her television career she also wrote numerous articles in popular publications like “Esquire”, “Country Living”, “Real Simple”, “Men's Health”, “Good Housekeeping” and “New York Times”.
