In 2013, the court ordered Powell to settle the case with 153 thousand dollars. However, after a few months, she again raised a complaint that she has been trying to get the money from Powell but the attempt was initially made in vain. A judgment was then made favoring Myers and allowed her to seize the property to settle the debt.

During the initial stages of the investigation, Powell stated that the woman was falsely accusing him and he also said that he planned to sue her. However, later, due to concrete evidence, the actor was found guilty. During the initial stages of investigation, the police did not find any strong evidence against Powell. When she took the case to the Federal court, things started to take a new turn.

This rape case did not have much of an effect on his personal relationship. His partner, Kimberly never talked about her husband and the rape case in public. There are rumors that he has not yet married to Kimberly and they were just in a long-term relationship.

Clearing His Name

In 2017, a judge ruled that Clifton was innocent and ended the $150,000 federal civil rape case. The case was dismissed by Judge Sarah S. Vance because there were inconsistencies in the alleged victim’s story and Clifton did was not properly served with a lawsuit in the initial stages of the case.

Powell’s lawyer made an official statement after the case was closed, “Mr. Powell feels blessed. Mr. Powell feels vindicated. He prays for Ms. Myers. And he thanks his fans. He doesn’t have any animosity in his heart. His father always told him the truth will set you free. It was a very emotionally disturbing ordeal, but we felt that the truth would come through.”

Damita Williams of the New Orleans Police Department, the detective that was a part of the investigation also made a statement “Through my investigation I found Ms. Kiyante Myers’ claims to be unfounded. Specifically because when I asked Ms. Kiyante Myers was she forced or intimidated to commit any sexual intercourse with Mr. Powell, she replied ‘No’”

Clifton had received negative press to his name during the years the case was active but he was happy to put it all behind him. He just wanted to get back to work.
