Along with her Emmy for 227, Jackee also won another major award to add to her career. She won the NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Sister, Sister. She won the award for two consecutive years in 1999 and 2000.

Personal Life

Jackee was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina but she was raised in Harlem, New York since the age of nine years old. Her mother Flossie was a Trinidadian while the father was an African American. She studied acting in a performing arts high school on the lower east side of New York. She was a History teacher at Brooklyn Technical High School before she decided to move on to acting. At the tender age of fourteen, Jackee landed the lead role of the King in her school's production of The King and I.

Jackee Harry got a divorce from her husband, Elgin Charles William in 2003. They were married for 7 years. However, after the divorce, they were still spotted together in public. Elgin Charles said that even though they got a divorce, they were still the best friends and they were living together to raise their son.  Elgin is a hairstylist and there were rumors that they were romantically involved again even though they claimed in public that they were only living together for the sake of their son.

Elgin is known to be an effeminate man and some people do not understand what attracts Jackee to him. He paints his fingernails and he always wears a shoulder length coiffed wrap. Jackee’s real friends don’t listen to the negativity. They know that Elgin makes her happy regardless of how he conducts his personal life and style.

In 2014 Jackee joined her mentor and former fellow cast member from 227, Marla Gibbs at they attended the funeral of Grammy Award winning singer Natalie Cole at the West Angeles Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles.

Paramedics were called to set after Jackee took a bad spill on the set of her sitcom The First Family. The comedian actress was preparing to shoot a scene with a magician when she fell. The actress hurt her back and help was summoned to set as a precaution. The director of the show was worried because of Jackee’s old age. She was over fifty years old at the time so he did not want to risk anything. Jackee was able to recover without too much trouble. She did not need any surgery or rehab to fix her back. Fortunately, for everyone involved it was just a minor slip that did not halt further production of the show.
