Judy Reyes

Judy Reyes was born in Bronx, New York USA on November 5 1967. Her parents were Immigrants from Dominican Republic. Reyes spent her teenage in Bainbridge Avenue. Judy has two siblings, one a twin sister and another sister. For higher education she went to the Hunter College in Manhattan and it was during this time when she stepped in to acting and decided to make it a career.

She started off in the year 1992 with a short role in a television series ‘Law and Order,’ and after that there was no looking back for her. She went on to do other short appearances on various shows including ‘the Sopranos,’ ‘NYPD Blue’ and ‘Nothing Sacred.’ In the year 1996 she did her first TV Movie ‘The Prosecutors’ and second one in the year 1999 ‘Mind Prey.’ Her TV movies are mainly for the Lifetime network. She was nominated for her TV Movie ‘The Pregnancy Project’ for the category of Best Supporting Actress in the Imagen Awards. Reyes has been continuously attached to the television series Oz, playing the character of Tina Rivera. The NBC’s comedy show ‘Scrubs’ got her first major recognition as nurse Carla Espinosa, whose character was identified as spunky and aggressive casted opposite to the surgical intern Chris Turk. The show aired from 2001 to 2009.  For the character she received the ALMA Award in the category of outstanding actress in a television series for the year 2006 and 2008. She was also nominated for the same in the year 2002 and 2009.

Post her departure from Scrubs, Judy went on to do guest roles in various shows. These include ‘Off the Map,’ ‘Hawthorne,’ ‘Without Men’ etc. The Sundance Film Festival (2011), saw the premiere of her short film ‘Gun Hill Road.’ Judy Reyes has also done a few small supporting roles in mainstream movies, these include Bringing out the dead (1996), Washington Heights (2002) and Dirty (2005).

In the year 2012 Judy got her second long term project with the comedy show ‘Devious Maids.’ This series was broadcasted on ABC and then on Lifetime television.  She played the character of Zolia Diaz in the series and received mixed reviews from the audiences and critics. Judy continues to be on the show till date while making short appearances on other series and films.

On personal front Judy Reyes’s married life has not been a success. She was married to Edwin M. Figueroa, a write and director and they got officially separated after 11 year of togetherness.
