Career

Promoted as the “new James Dean” Lee Majors started out in small parts but after his talents were recognized he quickly took on larger roles. His first notable role was in the TV Western, The Big Valley from 1965 to 1969. By acting in The Big Valley, Lee learned how to hone his skills as an actor from veteran performers such as the legendary Barbara Stanwyck. In an interview with FOX News in 2013, Lee said “Stanwyck took me under her wing. She was a disciplinarian and taught me. The main thing was to be on time, know your lines, hit your mark and keep your mouth shut."

When The Big Valley ended, Lee appeared on The Virginian in 1970. He followed that show with a legal drama called Own Marshall: Counselor at Law. After this show, Lee was part of the cast in The Six Million Dollar Man, a movie that aired on TV in 1973. In this movie, Lee played the role of an astronaut who had been rebuilt with bionic technology after a terrible accident. After this life-saving transformation, Austin went to work as a special agent for a secret branch of the government. With the success of the movie, Lee played the character's role in the series that followed which aired from 1974- 1978, this was when Lee became most recognizable in his career as a true star.

His popularity did not stop there, Lee gained even more popularity with The Fall Guy from 1981 to 1986. It was in this action series that he played the role of a stuntman who supplemented his income by working as a bounty hunter. It was in the 1980’s, and 1990’s where Lee repeated his role as his most iconic face in Six Million Dollar Man in several more TV movies.

During the second half of his career, Lee acted on the shows, The Game from 2007 to 2009, Weeds in 2008 and Raising Hope from 2011 to 2014. Lee was seen on Dallas in 2013, sharing scenes with Linda Grey. He also appeared in Eat, Play, Love in 2017 and Bicycle in 2018.

Lee was the winner of many awards with a total of five wins and six nominations. His first nomination was in 1983 for the Golden Boot Award. Lee won his second most notable award in 1984 earning him a place on the Walk of Fame. In 2001 he won the best actor at the Santa Monica Film Festival. In 2003 at the TV Land Awards, he won the Superest Super Hero Award for his role in The Six Million Dollar Man. In 2017, Lee was awarded by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, for Best Supporting Actor on Television for Ash vs. Evil Dead.
