Manuel was born on 19 September 1953. He was born in Santiago in Chile. The name of his father is Emilio Pellegrini Portales and Manuel mother’s name is Silvia Ripamonti Barros. Manuel’s childhood was spend in Chile and he completed his education from there itself. He went to Catholic university of Chile to complete his graduation and he received his degree in engineering in 1979. It is also known that his parents had their root in Italy and Manuel also has three siblings.
Manuel started playing for Club Universidad de Chile as he graduated from the university and he led his team to victory in Copa Chile. He created the history as the team managed to win the title after almost 10 years of struggle. He also led his team to victory in Copa Libertadores. He won millions of hearts because of his tactics in the game. Later in 1984, a shock came from Manuel when he made an announcement of his retirement and decided to work for the government to help the reconstruction of Chilean Central zone which was destroyed by an earthquake. Later in 1988, Manuel started worked as a manager for teams in Spain and Argentina. Later in 1990, he was started working with Chilean National team. He was working with them as a manger. Because of his skills, his team won Copa Inter Americana and Copa Chile in 1994 and 1995 respectively. After almost a decade with the team, he decided to join San Lorenzo for a year after which he joined River Plate. Manuel worked for River Plate for a year and then joined Villarreal.
He worked for the club for 5 years before joining the prestigious Real Madrid. The first cup that the team won under his guidance was Peace Cup in 2009 and the winning streak continued. The next year, in 2010, Manuel joined Mexico International Team and after 3 years of successful association with the team, Manuel got a chance to work with Manchester City. He led team to a winning era where the team performed extremely well. Last year in August, 2016, it was reported that Manuel started working as a manager for Hebei China Fortune.
