Jessica Lange returns to Broadway

She is famous, successful and talented. She has won two Oscars and currently she is playing in American Horror Stories as one of the main characters in all seasons. Her name? Jessica Lange of course!

The popular actress is now returning to the Broadway where she will star in the classic play of Eugene O’Neill called “Long Day’s Journey Into Night”. That information was published less two days ago by the Roundabout Theatre Company.

Getting a role in a Broadway play is a big success that many actors have only the luxury of dreaming about. Jessica Lange is now back on Broadway for her third time. The 66 years old actress has stared in two plays of the great American theatrical writer Tennessee Williams. The first play was “A Streetcar Named Desire” in 1992 and the second one was “The Glass Menagerie” in 2005. This time we expect to see big things from a big figure that has contributed to the art of theatre. The shows will begin in April 19th as the theatre company announced.

In that almost autobiographical play, Eugene O’Neil is narrating a dramatic story of a family as its members fight with their inner demons (among them is the demon called drugs addiction) and all that during a fateful day at the beginning of the 20th century.

Lange is impersonating a mother of the Mary Tyrone family who is addicted to drugs. This role was interpreted by Jessica again in 200 in London and for that particular role she was nominated for the Laurence Olivier award.

In this play Jessica Lange will have at her side as a co-star the Irish 65 years old Gabriel Byrne who has been awarded with an Emmy award and a golden sphere award for his role as a psychotherapist in the TV series “In treatment”

Adding a great, respectable and talented cast is a must ingredient for the recipe of success. But it can also get you some serious trouble as stars are usually known for having capricious personalities that tend to get worse when they come across one another. Of course this is good for the news but not that good for your play. Lucky enough, neither one of the actors are known for their unsettled behaviour so far.

Jessica Lange has been awarded with an Academy Award for Best Actress for the movie “Blue Sky” in 1994 and an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for the movie “Tootsie” in 1983 where she acted at the side of Dustin Hoffman.

Overall, Jessica is one of the very few talented actresses that always surprises us with her acting skills and her ability to feel the pulse of the character. It will definitely be exciting to see her return to Broadway for one more time. And who knows, maybe this will get her one more award, since she will most likely deserve one!
