Movement against Caitlyn Jenner to give back the gold medals

We did say that Caitlyn at the centre of most showbiz articles these days, didn’t we? Well then it’s no surprise that Caitlyn Jenner is our hot topic for once more.

The case of Bruce Jenner’s sex reassignment surgery has literally broken the internet (seems to run in the family). Then there was the cover of Vanity Fair magazine, where Bruce introduced himself as Caitlyn. That cover made it around the world at speed and Caitlyn’s new Twitter account got more followers even than Barak Obama’s profile. After that, we heard about Caitlyn being the new face of the MAC campaign.

Now, another campaign is attempting to take advantage of the statement that Caitlyn Jenner made on Vanity Fair (her first as a woman), according to which she mentioned that she “has always lived a lie” as Bruce. Due to the above statement, the campaign supports that the international Olympic federation should remove the gold medals that the former Olympic athlete won while being a man.

As the people who are behind the campaign stated, Bruce Jenner, the man who won the golden medal on the decathlon, broke the rules of the Olympic committee, since he took part as a man while he “believed that he actually was a woman”. This irrational thought, 40 years later, found some believers that seem to share the same opinion. On top of all the above, the campaign collects signatures to make its point stronger.

Below is the text that was used to gather people’s signatures for the campaign

“It has recently come to light that gold medalist Bruce Jenner is in fact transgender, and therefore, identifies as a woman. We congratulate Ms. Jenner on these new developments and wish her the best. However, this creates somewhat of a problem as Ms. Jenner (as talented as she is) claims that she has always believed herself to be truly female, and therefore, was in violation of committee rules regarding women competing in men’s sports and vice versa. Therefore, it is with a heavy heart that we must ask whether or not it is proper that Ms. Jenner should retain her olympic records in light of this, as we must now either claim that Bruce Jenner and Caitlyn Jenner are two entirely different people (which we know is not true), or that Bruce Jenner was, in fact, a woman participating in a men’s event. It is only fair to all involved that women receive their credit as champions of the Decathalon and that the men racing Ms. Jenner are not expected to compete with a superior, streamlined being such as herself.

We urge Ms. Jenner to support the transgender community by giving up the medals earned by competing against the wrong gender.

Thank you, and congratulations to Ms. Jenner for her courage!

#givebackthegold”.

As tragicomic as it may seem, this text got 2000 people to sign while there were also numerous tweets with #givebackthegold being the main hashtag: “

Since Bruce Jenner claims to have always been a female he should #givebackthegold

If Bruce Jenner has always been a woman then "she" cheated in the Olympics and should #givebackthegold

Caitlyn jenner should have to turn in her men's olympic medals. #givebackthegold#transjenner#CallMeCaitlyn

— Gerry Geronimo (@FlacidAlpaca) June 2, 2015”

Of course there were also reactions from people who stood in favour of Caitlyn. Among others there were Barak Obama, Monica Lewinsky, Ellen Degeneres who all congratulated Caitlyn for giving courage to other people that struggle with the same difficulties. And of course, the Kardashian sisters welcomed one more woman to the family, even if it was their stepfather a few days ago.

We still expect to see were and how this will end, so until we have further news concerning Cailyn, stay tuned!
