Here’s everything you need to know that happened on
the MTV 2015 awards. The good, the bad, the random, the fun and of course the
embarrassing!
- Nicki Minaj calls Miley Cyrus 'bitch'
on stage at MTV awards:
Minaj apparently angered by interview that Cyrus gave in which she
called Anaconda star ‘not too kind ... not very polite’. Nicki Minaj confronted
MTV Video Music Awards host Miley Cyrus during the awards ceremony in Los
Angeles on Sunday night while accepting the award for best hip-hop video. VMAs
2015: full list of winners at MTV video music awards. Minaj thanked her pastor
while taking the award for Anaconda, then turned to Cyrus, who was on a nearby
stage. “And now back to this bitch that had a lot to say about me the other day
in the press – Miley, what’s good?” said Minaj. In an interview last week with
the New York Times, Cyrus had accused the rap star of being jealous and said
that she had confronted music industry racism the wrong way. Cyrus responded to
the confrontation, with a brief comment about interview responses being twisted
from their intended message. “We’re all in the industry, we all do interviews,
and we all know how they manipulate shit,” Cyrus said, before continuing with
her script for the night.
- Kanye West says he's running for
president:
Just as rumors that swirled all week suggested, Taylor Swift presented
him with the award. Anyone who was expecting a standard acceptance speech from
him didn’t get it, nor should they have expected one. Instead of the standard
“I’d like to thank my vocal coach” fare, the TV audience and those in
attendance at the the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles were treated to 10 minutes
of free-form rambling, thanks in part to marijuana that West said he had smoked
backstage “to get the edge off”. West closed it out with the news that he will
run for president in 2020. Then he dropped the microphone and darted offstage,
and with that, the Kanye West brand took another step forward. All six of
West’s albums have gone platinum, according to the Recording Industry
Association of America (RIAA), and he’s logged 22 top 10 singles on Billboard’s
Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. That’s an impressive stretch by any standard,
but becoming a brand takes more than just selling a lot of records, something
that the Chicago rapper seems to have understood from the outset. West’s music
has been just one piece of what makes him a brand. He’s distinguished himself
in the “business” part of the music business, and made legitimate inroads in
fashion, television and philanthropy. He’s also understood the importance of
media attention – good or bad. All of these things have helped him keep the
brand out there. After all, even if you hate him and can’t wait for him to go
away, you still know his name.
- Miley Cyrus Closed Out MTV VMAs with
Drag-Queen-Packed Performance and New, Free Album:
Miley Cyrus delivered shock after shock at the 2015 MTV Video Music
Awards, and she topped it all off with her new album release and a dance party
with 30 queens from RuPaul's Drag Race. The 22-year-old VMA host closed out the
32nd annual awards show with her new song, "Dooo It," taking the
stage with Laganja Estranja, Pandora Boxx, Violet Chatchki, Shangela,
Vivacious, Gia Gunn, Porkchop, Pearl, Jessica Wild, Jiggly Caliente, Delta
Work, Courtney Act, Carmen Carrera, Cake Moss, Barbie's Addiction, Alexis Mateo,
Alyssa Edwards and more queens from the show.
Those are the highlights of the MTV 2015 awards.
