Born on September 21, 1965, to father George L. Miller and mother Maryen Lorrain Miller in Miami, Abby Lee birth name is Abigale Lee Miller. She started training for dance at a very tender age in a studio owned by her mother in Pennsylvania. I was, in fact, her mother who ignited Abby’s interest in dance. Assisting her mother to various dance competitions led her to her fascination towards dance. She wasn’t interested in performances and instead of pursuing the career of a performer, she chose to pursue choreography. At a very young age of 14 years, she established her dance company known as the Abby Lee Dance Academy. She then went on to establish her dance studio in 1980, and her dance studio now has an enrollment of around 3000-4000 students. When she was a kid, she also went for girl scouts, roller skating, clarinet lessons, sewing lessons, swimming, etc.
Following her mother’s demise, Abby Lee became the director of her late mother’s dance studio, The Maryen Lorrain Dance Studio. The dance’s studio was later named as Reign Dance Productions. The biggest opportunity in her career came in 2011 when she was approached for the reality television series Dance Moms, which started airing on Lifetime TV in 2011. The show is based on the life of Abby Lee Miller and her students along with their mothers who train at the Abby Lee Dance Company situated in Pittsburgh. She later worked on shows which are the extension of her show Dance Moms. The first show Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition ran for 22 episodes, the second show Dance Moms: Miami and the third show was Dance Moms: Abby’s Studio Rescue, which had only seven episodes. The whole cast of Dance Moms have now shifted to Los Angeles in 2015 where Miller also established a new studio known as ALDC.
Before shooting to fame with her reality television show Dance Moms, Abby Lee also has worked for several Broadway shows like Footloose, Wicked and The Lion King and Christmas Spectacular of Radio City. She also became a writer of books and published one in the year 2014 with the title Everything I Learned about Life, I Learned in Dance Class.Before her chance at fame, Abby Lee was believed to be bankrupt in the year 2010. She was also filed for a fraud case when it was known that she has created a secret bank account to hide her actual income. She was also booked for many fraud cases, and if she is proved to be guilty, it can lead to a fine of $250,000 and five years in prison. The case is still pending in the court. In the year 2014, she was also sued by the mother of one of her students in Dance Moms.
