Alan Guth was born on 27 December 1947 in New Jersey, USA. He was born to American parents of white ethnicity. He spent most of his childhood in New Jersey and also went to school there. He has been a very good student since his childhood and he showed signs of his intellect at school. He got good grades all the time and also won many competitions at that time. After completing his high school he went to Massachusetts Institute of Technology for his bachelor's degree.
Due to his superior performance, he got the chance to get a master’s degree in just one year which he took and got his bachelor's degree and master’s degree in 1969. In 1971 he started to work at Princeton University as a lecturer. He had a bad time at the beginning of his career as he wasn’t sure about his career choice.
He wanted to do research but it wasn’t a viable option as he had to feed his family as well. He worked at Princeton for 5 years before leaving for Columbia University. He didn’t stay at Columbia University for long as he moved to Cornell University in a couple of years. He stayed at Cornell for just 3 years and then went to Stanford University as a professor.
In 1972 he got his Ph.D. degree from MIT that he had worked so hard for. He then left teaching and started his research. He wanted to be a physicist and that what he did after getting his degree. He hadn’t done any fellowship and that was the reason why he couldn’t get any job in his field of interest.
In 1977 after 5 years of research he published a book named The Inflationary Universe. This book mainly dealt with the theory of ever expansion of the universe and also it pitched an idea of the vastness of the universe. The very next year he introduced the idea of Inflation theory. His theory was about the expansion of the universe after the Big Bang. He did his research at the Stanford University and also taught students about physics. In 2012 he was given Fundamental Physics Prize for his exceptional work in physics.
He is a married man and his wife’s name is Susan Tisch. They married in 1971 after years of dating. They knew each other since their high school and were dating since then. They have been together for a very long time and they are enjoying life as it comes. He is the father of two children at the moment. His first child was born after 7 years of being married. They named him Lawrence.
In 1983 his second child was born. This time it was a baby girl. They named her Jennifer. Currently he lives in New York with his wife and children along with some pets.
