Ali MacGraw, born on April 1, 1939, in Pound Ridge, New York, is an American actress and former model. She developed an early interest in the arts and attended Rosemary Hall in Greenwich, Connecticut, before graduating from Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts.

Career Beginnings and Breakthrough

MacGraw began her career in the entertainment industry working on fashion magazines and appearing in television commercials. She attracted critical attention with her film debut in the 1969 romantic drama Goodbye, Columbus, for which she won the Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer.

Her breakout role came in 1970 when she starred as Jenny Cavilleri in the romantic tragedy Love Story, opposite Ryan O’Neal. The film was a phenomenal success, becoming one of the highest-grossing movies in U.S. box office history at the time. Her performance earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress and an Academy Award nomination.

Personal Life and Family

Ali MacGraw has been married three times. Her first marriage was to Robin Martin Hoen, a Harvard-educated banker, though the marriage was short-lived. Her second marriage was to film producer Robert Evans, with whom she had one son, actor Josh Evans. Her third marriage, to actor Steve McQueen, was her most publicized and lasted five years before ending in divorce.
