Career

With her degree in education, after graduation, she imparted knowledge to school children for about a year, before quitting due to various reasons. After that, she worked around various jobs, including one where she side rents apartments in the city of New York (Situated in the United States of America)

She was reported to have a strong wanting to be her own boss since childhood, and her dream was achieved in 1973, when she, along with her then boyfriend who loaned her a thousand dollars (This was many years back. If the money was inflation adjusted for the years, to the current year, the money would value in at around five thousand five hundred dollars - $ 5500) she co-founded her company, a real estate business which was aptly named as the Corcoran Group. This company proved to be hugely successful, as she sold the company, more than twenty five years later, to NRT Incorporated for a very huge sum of sixty six million dollars ($ 66,000,000)

Also, by the mid 1970’s, at the starting years of her company, she published certain reports, based on trends of the real estate market in New York City. This publication was called ‘The Corcoran report.’

Other than these jobs, she often worked for publications such a More Magazine, The Daily Review, and Redbook, in the title of a coloumnist. She also appeared and was featured in numerous television shows, one such of that being Larry King Live. Her speaking skills (about real estate) are legendary, as she often acts as a business consultant in various situations, eventually even having her vary own ‘Barbara Corcoran Inc’ for this very purpose. She is also the main host of the show ‘The Millionaire Broker with Barbara Corcoran’, which is produced by CNBC (although, it is not that surprising that she hosts a show which literally has her name on it. Also, she often shares her view in the New York Daily News in the weekly column.

She also participates as a ‘Shark Investor’ in the show ‘Shark Tank’ aired by ABC.

Books

She is the author/ co – author of twenty nine books, which if you can’t tell, is a really huge amount. Some (not all) relates to the real estate market, while she writes other books from her own personal experiences. Her books are excellently worded, and provide a fascinating read, whether you are a newly starting ‘to be’ real estate mogul, or just an average ‘Joe’ with an interest in real estating.
