Early Life and Education

Barbara Corcoran, a white Caucasian female, was born on March 10, 1949, in Edgewater, New Jersey, United States. She earned a degree in education from St. Thomas Aquinas College in 1971.

Early Career and Entry into Real Estate

Following her graduation, Corcoran worked as a schoolteacher for a year before pursuing various other jobs. One such role involved renting apartments in New York City. From an early age, she aspired to be her own boss—a goal she realized in 1973.

Founding The Corcoran Group

In 1973, Corcoran co-founded a real estate company, The Corcoran Group, with a $1,000 loan from her then-boyfriend. Adjusted for inflation, that amount would be approximately $5,500 today. The business quickly rose to prominence in New York City's competitive real estate market. In the mid-1970s, she launched "The Corcoran Report," a publication analyzing city real estate trends. More than 25 years later, she sold The Corcoran Group to NRT Incorporated for $66 million.
