Barry Melrose

Barry Melrose is broadcaster and played ice hockey professionally. He is of Canadian-American nationality. He played in the World Hockey Association called WHA and in the National Hockey League or NHL. When he retired from playing, he became the head coach who was well known to coach the Los Angeles Kings in the year 1993 and they reached to 1993 Stanley Cup Final. He is a commentator for a long time and also a Hockey analyst for ESPN and he is a contributor for NHL Network.

Melrose started the hockey career when he was a defenseman in the WCHL together with Kamloops Chefs in the year 1974 and he stayed there for only 2 years. Afterwards, he started the 1976-77 Season in the Springfield Indians for AHL and then he moved to Cincinnati Stingers in the mid-season for WHA where he stayed up to 1979.

After the demise of the WHA and the subsequent absorption in the NHL, Melrose started to play for Winnipeg Jets in the 1979-1980 Season. For the time that he played afterwards, he split the time between Detroit and Toronto Maple Leafs with the Red Wings and also for the AHL affiliates. He spent the final season while playing with the Adirondack Red Wings for AHL in the 1986-1987 Season. During his career, he played over 300 games, he scored 10 Goals, 23 Assists, 728 penalty minutes. He also played in the 7 Playoffs games together with Toronto Maple Leafs and he had 2 goals with 38 penalty minutes.

After the retirement, he started to coach. He coached Medicine Hat Tigers for WHL and led them to the Memorial Cup Title. He coached next season for the Seattle Thunderbirds and also for Adirondack Red Wings. He spent three years for the Red Wings and this lead to Calder Cup in the year 1991 until 1992.

Barry Melrose joined espn where he was a commentator and analyst for NHL. He left the ESPN in June 2008 and went to coach Tampa Bay Lightening. After having a short stint with the Lightening, he returned to the ESPN and was working in the conjunction to Winter Classic that was played by Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks. He joined the NHL network in 2011 where he was a contributor.

Barry Melrose was born in Saskatchewan and his parents are James Melrose and Norrie. He now lives in New York together with his wife and two sons. He has been also in many movie roles and television roles and he was the star in Spin City with the title of Hey Judith. He has been married for over 38 years now and he is happy being a husband to Cindy and a father to his children Adrien and Tyrell.
