Early Life and Background
Carl Frampton was born on February 21, 1987, in the Tiger's Bay area of Belfast, Northern Ireland. This working-class neighborhood developed around the Harland & Wolff shipyard, famously known for building the RMS Titanic. Frampton’s boxing journey began at a young age when he joined the Midland Boxing Club, where his talent quickly became evident. His early years in Tiger’s Bay played a pivotal role in shaping his competitive spirit and work ethic.
Rise Through the Ranks
Frampton gained prominence as an amateur boxer, representing Ireland at international events prior to turning professional in 2009. Nicknamed "The Jackal," he swiftly climbed the ranks in the super bantamweight (122-pound) division. In 2014, he won his first world title by defeating Kiko Martínez to claim the IBF super bantamweight belt in front of a hometown crowd in Belfast. His win marked the beginning of a highly respected professional run.
In 2016, Frampton unified the super bantamweight division by defeating Scott Quigg, adding the WBA title to his IBF crown. Later that year, he moved up to featherweight (126 pounds) and achieved another major career milestone by defeating American Leo Santa Cruz in a bout widely considered a “Fight of the Year” candidate. With this victory, he became Northern Ireland's first two-division world champion.
