Carole Shelley was born in 1939 and he is English actress. She has been in many stage roles and the well known role she took was Madame Morrible in original Broadway cast in a musical under the name Wicked. She is the winner of the Tony Award for being the Best Actress of a Play The Elephant Man in the year 1979.

From her biography, Carole Shelley is a daughter to Deborah who was a singer and to Curtis Shelley who was a composer. She was born in the city of London in England. From her father, she is a German Jew and from her mother, she is a Russian Jew. She made the Broadway Debut when she was Gwendolyn Pigeon with an original play of 1965 in the Odd Couple. Other stars are Walter Matthau and Art Carney. She took up the same role in the year 1968 in the film version of the play and Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon were in the movie. Carole Shelley, together with Monica Evans was co-starring and she was acting as her sister called Cecily Pigeon. The two are the only stars who had been able to be in the three versions of The Odd Couple. The play was for stage, afterwards in a movie and then it was adapted for TV.

Starting from 1970s until 1980s, she was able to appear in many plays and they include Rosalind role in As You Like It in the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in the city of Ontario. She was nominated for Tony Award in the year 1975 for the performance in Absurd Person Singular where she was Jane. Her role in The Elephant Man as Mrs. Kendal helped her to win the Tony Award of Best Actress in the plays. In the Stepping Out, she was Maxine and she got the nomination for Tony Award for Featured Actress in the play. She got Obie Award for the performance in Twelve Dreams and she started to appear in the musicals in the year 1990s. She was in the revivals of the Show Boat when she was Parthy and she was Fraulein Schneider in the Cabaret in the year 1999.

In the year 2003, Shelley was in a role of Madame Morrible again for the original Broadway cast for the musical Wicked. This is the role she also took up in the national touring company of 2005 to 2006 during Chicago production. She was in the role of Grandma in a Broadway production under the name of Billy Elliot for Imperial Theatre and the performance started in the year 2008. She got nominated to the Tony Award for Best featured Actress of 2009.

Carole Shelley got married once but the marriage only lasted for four years but it did not end in the divorce but her husband died and since then, she never got married again.
