Daniel Kaluuya was born on February 24, 1989, in London, England, to Ugandan immigrant parents. Raised in a council estate in Camden Town, Kaluuya demonstrated a passion for storytelling from a young age—writing his first play at the age of nine. He began acting in local theater productions, including work at the Anna Scher Theatre in North London. He later attended St. Aloysius College, a boys’ Catholic school, where he continued to develop his interest in drama and performance.

Career Beginnings and Rise to Fame

Kaluuya began his professional acting career in British television, earning early roles in series such as Shoot the Messenger (2006) and later appearing in shows like Skins, where he also contributed as a writer. His breakthrough in the U.S. came through his compelling performance in the “Fifteen Million Merits” episode of the sci-fi anthology series Black Mirror. This role captured the attention of filmmaker Jordan Peele, who later cast Kaluuya as the lead in the acclaimed horror-thriller film Get Out (2017).

Breakout Role in Get Out

Kaluuya received international acclaim for his portrayal of Chris Washington in Get Out, a horror-comedy that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2017 before its wide release the following month. Produced on a modest budget of $4.5 million, the film became a major box-office success, grossing over $255 million worldwide.
