Dawn Sherrese Robinson was born in 1965 in New London, Connecticut. She is an American singer, songwriter, and actress best known for her work as a member of the R&B group En Vogue. Robinson joined En Vogue in 1989, becoming an integral part of the group’s success in the 1990s. En Vogue rose to prominence with their powerful vocals and chart-topping hits, ultimately becoming one of the best-selling girl groups of all time. The group earned seven Grammy Award nominations, four Soul Train Music Awards, and multiple MTV Video Music Awards during their peak years.
After departing from En Vogue in 1997, Robinson became a founding member of the R&B supergroup Lucy Pearl, alongside Raphael Saadiq of Tony! Toni! Toné! and Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest. The group released their self-titled debut album in 2000, which achieved commercial success and featured the hit single “Dance Tonight,” a top-charting song that broadened Robinson's musical influence.
In 2002, Robinson launched her solo career with the release of her debut album titled Dawn. The album produced the single “Envious,” which marked her first solo chart entry. However, by 2010, Robinson had departed once more, citing dissatisfaction with compensation and management issues. Despite these challenges, she has occasionally rejoined the group for performances over the years while continuing to work independently.
In 2013, Dawn Robinson joined the cast of the first season of the reality television show R&B Divas: Los Angeles, which highlighted the personal and professional lives of female R&B artists. Despite her visibility on the show, she declined to participate in its reunion special, citing personal reasons. Rumors circulated regarding her absence, including contentious claims involving her ex-husband. However, Robinson addressed these allegations publicly, stating that the decision not to appear was hers alone and linked to personal discomfort and unresolved issues rather than external interference.
