Eamonn Holmes

Early Life and Education

Eamonn Holmes was born on December 3, 1959, in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He attended Holy Family Primary School during his early years. Holmes pursued higher education at the Dublin College of Business Studies, where he studied journalism—laying the foundation for his future career in broadcasting and media.

Broadcasting Career

Before breaking into broadcasting, Holmes worked at a Dublin-based business magazine. In 1979, he joined Ulster Television, where he began reporting on agriculture and rural affairs. His early work earned him recognition, including a Hometown Radio Award.

Holmes rose to national prominence as a television presenter, notably co-hosting GMTV, and later anchoring Sky News Sunrise from 2005 to 2016. Over the years, Holmes distinguished himself with his engaging style and journalistic versatility. In addition to his television work, he has contributed as a columnist for The People newspaper.

Autobiography and Recognition

In 2006, Holmes released his autobiography, This is MY Life, offering insights into his personal and professional journey. His contributions to broadcasting were formally recognized in 2018 when he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).

Personal Life and Philanthropy

Holmes married fellow television presenter Ruth Langsford in June 2010. Their wedding gained media attention, with exclusive coverage published by Hello! magazine across two issues in July of that year. The couple’s son, Jack Alexander Holmes, was born in 2002. Holmes also has three children—Declan, Rebecca, and Niall—from a previous marriage.

Committed to social causes, Holmes and Langsford have been strong supporters of the Dementia Friends Campaign, led by the Alzheimer’s Society. They are also patrons of Dogs Trust, reflecting their support for animal welfare.
