AJ Allmendinger is a professional American race car driver who first gained prominence by winning the Toyota Atlantic Championship in 2003 while racing for RuSPORT. His success in the Atlantic Championship led to a promotion to the Champ Car World Series in 2004, where he continued to build his reputation. During his debut year, he secured the Roshfrans Rookie of the Year award, becoming the first American to win this honor since 1991.
In 2005, Allmendinger consistently performed within the top tier of the Champ Car series, finishing fifth overall and achieving multiple top-five and top-ten finishes. His momentum continued into 2006, where he won five out of the final six races of the season and placed third overall—his highest finish in the Champ Car standings.
Allmendinger transitioned to NASCAR in 2007, beginning his stock car racing career with Red Bull Racing. He drove for the team through 2008, piloting vehicles sponsored by Toyota and Dodge. In 2010 and 2011, he joined Richard Petty Motorsports, racing under the Ford and Dodge banners. In 2012, he was signed by Team Penske and competed in the NASCAR Cup Series using Dodge machinery.
His involvement with Team Penske extended to sports car racing as well. In 2012 and 2013, Allmendinger participated in select IndyCar races, including driving a Dallara chassis for Penske in 2013.
Between 2014 and 2016, Allmendinger competed in the NASCAR Cup Series with JTG Daugherty Racing, driving for a team backed by Chevrolet. One of his biggest career highlights came in 2013 when he won the NASCAR Nationwide Series (now Xfinity Series) race at the Johnsonville Sausage 200, held at Road America in Wisconsin.
In addition to stock car and open-wheel racing, Allmendinger has experience in sports car racing. He has competed in the 24 Hours of Daytona as part of Michael Shank Racing, showcasing his versatility across motorsport disciplines. Before breaking into major leagues, he competed in developmental and feeder series, such as the Barber Dodge Pro Series and the Atlantic Championship, where he succeeded racers like Leo Maia and followed in the footsteps of talents such as Timo Glock and Tiago Monteiro. Both in 2004, Allmendinger earned the Champ Car Rookie of the Year and Autosport Rookie of the Year honors.
AJ Allmendinger was born in America and stands at 5 feet 6 inches (1.68 meters) tall. He married American model Lynne Kushnirenko in 2007; however, the couple divorced in 2012. Outside of racing, he reportedly signed a deal with Michael Waltrip Racing in 2008. His estimated net worth is approximately $18.5 million, a result of his lengthy and diverse career in multiple racing disciplines.
