In 2014 he had his fifth multi-homer game on may 30, and had his second career walk-off home run on june 6. Anthony was later voted by the fans into the all-star game, along with Chris Sale who was a White Sox pitcher at the time. In july of that year Anthony won his very first player of the week award and by mid september he had become the youngest player to receive the Branch Rickey Award as a "strong role model for young people".
In april 2018 Anthony was placed on the disabled list by the Cubs for the first time in his professional career due to a back injury, Anthony believes he can overcome it with training and exercise and should be recovered by the start of the next season.
In April 2008 he was diagnosed with a limited state classical Hodgkin's lymphoma at age 18. After going through chemotherapy for six months, on september 2nd 2008 his doctor was convinced e was in remission and told him as much - even though Rizzo had six more weeks of treatment left to go through as well as some follow-up testing to ensure everything was in order. On november 18 2008 anthony was finally told by his physician that he could live a normal life once more - he had beat cancer. Anthony's experience with cancer led to him opening the "Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation" in 2012 - a non profit organization dedicated to raising money for cancer research and providing support for families whose members have cancer. The foundation is entirely run by his family, friends and a management team - Anthony is there in a leadership role to oversee and has a final say in the decisions. In august 2017 The foundation had donated $3.5 million to the Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago - a hospital which he visits monthly to meet various groups there to provide them moral support.
