Robert Frederick Zenon Geldof is an Irish singer-songwriter, author, actor and political activist. Known as Bob, he was born on 5 October 1951, in Dublin, Ireland. His marriage to rock journalist Paula Yates lasted for a decade from 1986 to 1996. His current girlfriend is Jeanne Marine whom he is to wed soon. Bob has three children, Fifi Trixibelle, Peaches Honeyblossom and Pixie. His daughter Peaches aged 25 years was found dead in her apartment in April 2014. Apparently, she died from an overdose of heroin. She leaves behind a grieving husband Thomas Cohen and 2 sons. She hid her drug usage from Bob.
Geldof studied at Black Rock College, Ireland and worked as a pop journalist in Canada and returned to Ireland in 1975. Geldof’s music career spans many decades. He was the singer of the punk band The Boomtown Rats from 1975-1986, and was associated with the organizations Band Aid in 1984 and U.S.A. for Africa in 1985. His singles are Deep in the Heart of Nowhere (1986), The Vegetarians of Love (1990), The Happy Club (1993), Sex, Age and Death (2001). The Boomtown Rats had a couple of hits. Their hits include the single I Don’t Like Mondays and the album Mondo Bongo. Geldof was the leading actor in the film Pink Floyd – The Wall. He acted as Pink.
The messy-haired Bob Geldof is well known for his political activism, anti-poverty efforts in Africa, and to raise money for famine relief through his Live Aid and Live 8 concerts. Geldof has a heart of gold. He sympathized with the famine-stricken Ethiopians. In 1984, he formed the pop charity Band Aid Trust and raised $8 million for famine relief in Africa and in 1985 he conducted more concerts and raised an additional $48 million. Such is the fame of this philanthropist and human rights activist. In 1986 he was honored with a knighthood for his work with famine victims. He was knighted and today he is known as Sir Robert Geldof.
Paula Yates left Geldof in 1995 and moved in with the Australian band INXS rocker Michael Hutchence. They had a daughter named Tiger Lily. Hutchence committed suicide in 1997 and Paula met her end in 2000 due to drug overdose. Geldof became the legal guardian of Tiger Lily.
After his divorce from Paula, Geldof was totally destroyed and he even considered suicide. She had been his partner for 20 years. The loss was unbearable and he struggled with the suicidal impulses. He compiled a list of reasons why he should live and it was the thought of his children that topped his list. It is said that Geldof hated women after Paula ditched him.
Finally Geldof has given his family some good news. He is engaged to the French actress Jeanne Marine who has been his girlfriend for 18 years. Jeanne has been a solid rock and a tower of strength to Geldof. She joined Geldof at the funeral of Peaches. Jeanne is very happy as out of the blue, Geldof, the elegant, charming, compassionate and intelligent man asked her to marry him. She is so in love with him and absolutely adores him.
