Cathy Areu is an American author and news analyst who was born in 1971 in Summit, New Jersey. Her parents are of Cuban descent and she grew up in New Jersey. Areu went on to attend Florida State University in 1992 where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in English literature. She also attended Nova Southeastern University in Florida where she has a master's degree in English education. Areu was hired as a teacher in Florida after gaining her certification to teach in New Jersey. She was subsequently given tenure in Florida. Areu conducted interviews for the column "First Person Singular" in the Washington Post from 2001 to 2012. Among the people she interviewed were Laura Bush, Al Franken, Al Sharpton, and Nancy Pelosi. She also contributed to the magazine Latina Style in 2001 as well as People Magazine and USA Weekend. She also founded her own magazine aimed at Hispanic women called Catalina. In 2006, Areu published her book Latino Wisdom which is a collection of stories about well known Hispanic figures in America. It was published by Barricade Books that year.
Areu has also appeared as a guest on several political talk shows including Fox News's The O'Reilly Factor, The Sean Hannity Show, and Tucker Carlson Tonight. Areu has two daughters but has not publicized her relationship status.
