David Blaine is known as an American magician and illusionist. He is most famous for stunts like “Frozen Time” and “Living in a Glass Box”
David Blaine was born on April 4, 1973, in Brooklyn, New York. He is the son of William Perez and Patrice Maureen White. His father was a Vietnam War Veteran and his mother was a school teacher. He was raised by his single mother and fell in love with the art of illusion at the early age of 4 when he saw a street magician performing tricks in the subway. When he turned 10, his mother married John Bukalo and the newly formed family moved to Little Falls, New Jersey. where he attended Passaic Valley Regional High School. His mom had a battle from cancer and she passed away in 1994 when David was 21 years old.
The "modern-day Houdini", David Baline started his career by performing street magic shows. Soon, he got his first TV special, in 1997 which Penn of the famous Penn and Teller commented "It really, really does break new ground". TIMES along with Penn said, "David’s deceptively low- key street theatre, ultra-cool manner is a show within a show and is the spontaneous visceral reaction of people being astonished".
David established a number of tricks that made history granting him the title of the most talented and successful modern magician. He claims that his goal is to take magic back to how it was 100 years ago. Some of his most known stunts are the "Dive of Death" and the "Drowned Alive", a stunt so intense that Yale University signed a contract with Blaine in order to use him in research on human physiological reaction to prolonged submersion.
Blaine appeared on the April 30, 2008 episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show to break the Guinness World Record on oxygen assisted static apnea, holding his breath for roughly 17 seconds. While talking on TED, he said "The neurosurgeon pulled me out of the water because in his mind, at 15 minutes your brain is done, you're brain dead. So, he pulled me up, and I was fine. There was one person there that was definitely not impressed. It was my ex-girlfriend. While I was breaking the record underwater for the first time, she was sifting through my Blackberry, checking all my messages."
When asked during an interview how he hopes people view his body of work, David responded: "I hope people remember me as a guy who brought magic to the people. You know, pushed the boundaries of wonder. And by magic, I don't think there is a clear definition. I don't think you can say something is or isn't magic. That's what was cool about Houdini, because he was a magician who had a magic show, but he was also an escape artist, and they kind of, over time, blended together. They both kind of enhance each other, I think."
David Blaine has a net worth of over $40 million dollars.
David Blaine was married to Alizee Guinochet, the French model and actress. After a one year relationship, he proposed to her for marriage and his girlfriend turned into his fiancée. In 2008, they got married and started living together as husband and wife. On the 27th of January, 2011 they were blessed with a baby girl, named Dessa. At the time of her labor pains, due to a heavy storm, they were not able to get a cab to reach the hospital. After many difficulties, the couple reached the hospital, with the help of a snowplow.
In 2013, David Blaine was seen in a club dancing with a lady, who was not his wife. When he was asked about this scene, he said that he and his wife were on break from their relationship. After six years of marriage, they got divorced in 2014. David says that they are still close to each other but now the situation is different. He says that he is close to his daughter and wants to be with her at all times. He says that he is a family man and will focus on spending more time with his daughter and bond with his family.
