David Byrne is known as a Scottish-American singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, artist, actor, writer and movie producer. He is most famous for being an establishing member, essential songwriter and lead singer and guitarist of the American new wave band known as Talking Heads.
Background
David Byrne was born on May 14, 1952 in Dumbarton, United Kingdom. When he was just two years old, his family moved to Canada. After six years in the cold country, his family again moved to a suburb outside of Baltimore, Maryland. In September 1970, while going to the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, he met his future bandmates Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, and there they shaped the five-member band known as the Artistics.
Career
In the middle of 1974, Byrne moved to New York to pursue his songwriting career. Frantz and Weymouth soon followed him to New York. They played their first performance as the Talking Heads. The band name was something that Byrne said he found in a TV Guide promotion for a sci-fi motion picture. On June 20, 1975, when they opened for the Ramones at the new Bowery club. The Talking Heads immediately picked up prominence and eventually signed a record dealt with the New York independent label, Sire in 1977.
