Born on April 7, 1980 to father Moses Otunga and mother Billie Otunga in Elgin situated in Illinois, David Daniel Otunga Sr. spent most of his childhood days growing up with his three siblings in Illinois. He did his education from the Larkin High School and graduated in the year 1998 from there. He then went on to attend the University of Illinois and graduated with a psychology major from there. After graduating from the University of Illinois, he went on to study at the Harvard Law School. Before that, he worked at the Columbia University as a laboratory manager. After his graduation, he worked at the Sidley Austin Law firm.
From a very young age, David developed a fascination towards acting. He made his acting debut in the year 2007 when he became a part of the television show I Love New York 2 and was one of the participants to reach finals. He was then cast for the movie The Call in the year 2013 and also made a minor role in the television show General Hospital. After his acting career, his interest in wrestling started increasing and he decided to begin his wrestling career. In the year 2008, he went on to join World Wrestling Entertainment. His contract was a developmental one and he started training at the Florida Championship. During the time of his debut, he took up the name Dawson Alexander and his first match took place in the year 2009 in a tag team competition.
After this, he participated in Raw as well as SmackDown in the year 2010. In the same year, he became a part of NXT. He participated in NXT and won a match against Darren Young in his first match. In the year 2010, he became a part of The Nexus. His group went on to win a match against John Cena. During the year 2011, he was teamed with John Cena for a tag team championship after Cena became the part of his group. After a match in March, 2011, David Otunga became absent from the matches for around a month and returned during the WWE Championship.
At the end of the year 2011, he started rediscovering his law career. After the advice of a fellow player, he decided to help wrestlers to file a lawsuit the main operating officer of WWE, Triple H. He also helped Curtis Axel in one of his controversies. Otunga again disappeared from WWE and returned in the year 2014 for WrestleMania. He made an appearance on the RAW Pre-Show. In the beginning of the year 2016, he also became a commentator. According to his bio, he is also popular for his theme song All About the Power.
He is married to Jennifer Hudson. The couple got engaged in the year 2008. David and his wife are proud parents of a son in the year 2009, who was named David Daniel Otunga Jr. They do not have any more children and there is no news of any conflict or divorce.
