Davy Jones was an English singer-songwriter, musician, and actor who was born on December 30, 1945, in Openshaw, Machester, England. Growing up he was active in theater in the West End of London where he even played the Artful Dodger in the musical "Oliver!" His performance even earned him a nomination for a Tony Award. Jones eventually landed a role on the British television soap opera "Coronation Street" where he would make his on-screen debut. In 1961, Jones played the grandson of Ena Sharples whose name was Colin Lomax for one episode. He wasn't much for school growing up and he even dropped out of secondary school to pursue a career in acting. He struggled at first but he a friend who encouraged him to act. Jones would go on to care for the same friend in his later years which ultimately brought him to the United States. In 1964, Jones appeared on "The Ed Sullivan Show" with a fellow co-star from "Oliver!".
That very same episode, the up and coming band The Beatles made their debut. At age 19, Jones was signed to Colpix Records which was owned by Columbia. He released his debut album which was self-titled "David Jones". He would eventually go on to become a member of The Monkees from 1966 to 1971 which is what he is best known for. Jones passed away on the morning of February 29, 2012, due to a severe heart attack.
