Drew Carey is known as an American actor and comedian. He is most famous for his sitcom, The Drew Carey Show and hosting Whose Line Is It Anyway? and The Price is Right.
Drew Carey was born on May 23, 1958, in Cleveland, Ohio. Lewis and Beulah Carey are Drew's parents, he is the youngest of three sons. His father was a draftsman at General Motors. His father passed away when Drew was only eight years old. Drew's father had developed a brain tumor before he tragically passed. Drew did not handle this well and dealt with depression in his childhood. His mother couldn't help him much in the process of fighting depression, as she had to take multiple jobs to support the family. He was unable to share his feelings with his big brothers because of a massive age gap.
At Rhodes High School, Drew was a coronet and trumpet player in the marching band. After his graduation from Rhodes in 1975, he started his college education at Kent State University and became a member of the Delta Tau Fraternity. His favorite hobby at Kent State was playing board games. Over the next three years, he was expelled from school twice and even attempted suicide.
In 1980, he decided to call his academic career quits and tried out comedy. He was still suffering from depression when he traveled around the country testing his talents as a comedian. His brother's emotional and financial support helped him get through his dark days. He leaned on his brothers for advice and help with daily life decisions.
Drew joined the United States Marines after his unsuccessful attempts to pursue a career in comedy. As a marine, he learned how to overcome his battles with depression. His career as a marine ended after six successful years in service. After his military duty, he moved to Vegas and briefly worked as a waiter at Denny's and also was a bank teller. He felt the urge to try to be a comedian again with some motivation from David H.Lawrence XVII, an American television and film actor David paid Drew to write jokes for his radio show in Cleveland.
Drew began fulfilling his dreams of being an entertainer. He was being paid money to write jokes for a radio show in his hometown and David was full of great ideas to help Drew become better at his craft. Drew took David's advice to read a lot of books to enhance his joke writing skills. He started to spend most of his free time reading humor books and listening to recordings of comedians. Drew was extremely happy because he was doing something that had helped him in many of his gloomy days.
Drew Carey got engaged to Nicole Jaracz in 2007 but they broke up in 2012. Drew maintained a positive relationship with Jaracz and her son Connor, whom he regards as his own son.
In 2010, Drew lost over 80 pounds by following a strict diet and exercise plan. He went to the gym 5 days a week and ate only what was recommended to him by his personal health consultant. His inspiration was his fiancee and her son. Through his diet and exercise, he was no longer bothered by his type 2 diabetes.
In 1986, Drew Carey won an open mic contest and went on to become the Master of Ceremonies at the Cleveland Comedy Club. Since then Drew has never looked back. He has successfully transitioned from an experienced comedian to a celebrated television personality, actor, writer, author, and game show host. He reached the peak of his popularity with his sitcom, The Drew Carey Show Nevertheless, The sitcom was able to attract a diverse range of actors and was also noted for its abundant musical cameos. Popular figures like Donald Trump, Slash, Ben Stein, and Triple H made guest appearances on the show.
Many of Drew's fans remember him as the host on the improv show, Whose Line Is It Anyway? Drew took over as a host on the popular game show, The Price is Right in 2007. His role fulfilled his love of games and gave him the opportunity to express his comedic side.
