Edie McClurg was born on July 23, 1951, in Kansas City, Missouri. She entered the entertainment world at a young age, performing with the "Kansas City Rhythm Kids" when she was just five. McClurg later attended the University of Missouri in the mid-1960s, where she earned her undergraduate degree. During her time there, she returned to performing as a DJ, producer, and newswoman.
