<p>Elizabeth MacRae was born on February 22, 1936, in Columbia, South Carolina, United States, and passed away on February 22, 2008. She was the <a href="/biography/elizabeth-macrae">daughter</a> of James and Dorothy (Hendon) MacRae, and the granddaughter of James and Dorothy (Hendon) MacRae. From the 1960s to the 1980s, <a href="/biography/elizabeth-macrae">Elizabeth Herndon MacRae</a> worked as an actor in various television episodes and films. She is most remembered for her role as Lou-Ann Poovie in the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gomer_Pyle,_U.S.M.C.">Gomer Pyle</a>, USMC series.</p>

<p>From 1956 to 1958, she was a <a href="/biography/elizabeth-macrae">student</a> at the Herbert Berghof Studio in New York City. In 1958, she studied at the Art Students League in New York City. In 1965, she was a <a href="/biography/elizabeth-macrae">student</a> at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. From 1989 to 1991, she was a <a href="/biography/elizabeth-macrae">student</a> at Marymount Manhattan College in New York City. Along with her excellent work on <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gomer_Pyle,_U.S.M.C.">Gomer Pyle</a>, MacRae had a recurring role on the popular television series Gunsmoke as April, the girlfriend of Festus.</p>

Additionally, she participated in several television shows produced by Warner Bros. in the 1960s, including an episode of Maverick titled "Benefit of Doubt," which starred <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Colbert">Robert Colbert</a> in the role of Brent Maverick. 77 Sunset Strip, Hawaiian Eye, and Surfside 6 were among the other shows in which she appeared. She was frequently confused with "<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellen_Burstyn">Ellen McRae</a>," an <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellen_Burstyn">actress</a> who looked strikingly similar to her and who appeared in Warner Bros. series such as Cheyenne during the same time. <p><a href="/biography/elizabeth-macrae">Elizabeth Herndon MacRae</a> was married to fellow <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nedrick_Young">actor</a> <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nedrick_Young">Nedrick Young</a>, his second <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nedrick_Young">wife</a>. They were married for only a year before his death. He was best known for films such as The Defiant Ones (1958) and Gun Crazy (1950). He won the Oscar for Best Screenplay for The Defiant Ones under the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nedrick_Young">pseudonym</a> <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nedrick_Young">Nathan E. Douglas</a>, as he had been banned from using his own name after invoking his Fifth Amendment rights while appearing before the 1953 House Committee. After her marriage to <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nedrick_Young">Nedrick</a>, Elizabeth went on to marry Charles Halsey.</p>
