Gabriella Papadakis is a French ice dancer born on May 10, 1995, in Clermont-Ferrand, France. She is the daughter of Catherine Papadakis, a figure skating coach, and Emmanuel Papadakis, who operates a food truck in Austin, Texas. Her multicultural upbringing contributed to her versatile training background and strong foundation in ice dancing.
Papadakis has been skating with her longtime partner, Guillaume Cizeron, since they were around nine or ten years old. Their partnership began at the suggestion of Gabriella’s mother, Catherine Papadakis, who also served as their earliest coach. The duo has risen to the pinnacle of ice dancing under this formative guidance.
Together, Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron are five-time French National Champions, having won the title consecutively from 2015 through 2019. Internationally, they are four-time European Champions (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018) and three-time World Champions (2015, 2016, 2018). Throughout their career, they have consistently set new standards in the sport with world record scores in the short dance, free dance, and combined total.
At the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, the pair finished second in the short dance and first in the free skate, setting a world record score of 123.35 in the latter. Their combined performance earned them the silver medal.
Continuing their dominant presence in the figure skating world, Papadakis and Cizeron competed at the 2018 Internationaux de France in Grenoble. There, they captured the gold medal and set new world records in both the short and free dance programs, as well as in their overall score.
In August 2015, Gabriella suffered a cerebral concussion following a fall during practice. The injury impacted her ability to focus, and she has spoken about continuing to experience occasional symptoms. Despite this setback, she and Cizeron maintained their elite level of performance through perseverance and careful management of her recovery.
