Graham Richardson got his start in journalism when he picked up a job as an assignment editor and reporter for CBC Calgary in 1993. The station liked Richardson enough to keep him around for four years. In 1997, Richardson made the switch to the next step in his career when he went to work for the ITV news station located in Edmonton. His second stop as a reporter also lasted 4 years, giving Richardson almost a decade worth of journalism experience.
Richardson joined the ranks of Global Television Network in Toronto during the year 2001 as a news anchor. He hosted a flagship program called Focus Ontario. In 2004, Richardson would find his permanent home. He went to work for CTV Toronto as a reporter. He has now been working for the CTV brand of networks for over a decade and counting. When he first started at CTV, he had a role as a parliamentary correspondent and he would occasionally appear as an anchor for a program called Mike Duffy Live. When Mike Duffy had to depart from CTV, it led to some holes for the network to fill. The station decided to call on Richardson. Graham Richardson got the opportunity to host the show On the Hill for a few weeks.
Being a parliamentary correspondent was one of the most engaging journalism experiences for Richardson. Richardson tried to capture and highlight the conflict over confidential files regarding the Chalk River nuclear reactor. There were sides that wanted to hide their involvement with the nuclear reactor. Richardson wanted to find out the truth and bring the story to the Canadian public.
In December of 2009, CTV made an announcement about Graham Richardson replacing Max Keeping who decided to retire from the news channel. Starting in 2010, Richardson would take charge of Keeping’s previous role as the co news anchor at CTV Ottawa. It was a huge accomplishment for Richardson to receive such a high position. For a reporter that had started 17 years ago, getting to co-anchor spot at a major news network was a career milestone.
Throughout his career, Richardson has covered all kinds of news topics including movie news, Olympic Games, hurricanes, and current events happening in Canada and around the world. Richardson now enjoying himself on the top as the Chief News Anchor on CTV. From reporting on the charity fundraiser of a pet shop to sensational coverage of Hurricane Katrina, Richardson has seen everything in the news world.
In 1998, Graham was the finalist for the Canadian Association of Journalist award. He was nominated for his piece of investigative journalism regarding the Canadian election coverage. In 2007, Richardson again was a finalist for the Canadian Association of Journalist award.
