Guy Martin is a former British motorcycle racer who was born on November 4, 1981, in Grimsby, United Kingdom to his father Ian and his mother Rita Kidals. Martin's father was a successful motorcycle racer who had competed in several Isle of Man TT events. After Martin was born, his parents had three more children and moved into a larger house outside of town to accommodate their growing family. As a child, Martin loved taking things apart such as engines from lawnmowers and rebuilding them to go faster. Martin attended Kirmington Church of England Primary School and The Vale Academy. He left for college at age 16 and enrolled in North Lindsey College to take a motor vehicle engineering course. Martin quickly realized it was not working out since he was being taught things he already knew and was not being paid for his work. He left North Lindsey College after a month to become an apprentice as a truck fitter at a Volvo center.
During his apprenticeship, Martin raced motorbikes in his spare time. This eventually led him to join Team Racing and then the Uel Duncan Racing team where he stayed until 2005. Martin went on to gain over 17 podium finishes and has broken his back twice in racing accidents. He eventually had to give up racing and became a television presenter for engineering projects.
