James is a graduate from Hampshire’s Academy along with Benny Howell, Chris Morgan, Hamza Riazuddin and Tom Parson. He made his debut in county cricket in the year 2009, and played against Nottinghamshire. His batting performance was impressive in County cricket and was compared to Michael Vaughan. James scored his 1st hundred against Yorkshire.
International:
James made his debut in ODI format against Ireland in mid of 2015. In T20 format, James made his debut in November 2015 against Pakistan. In a three match series James scored 41 runs in first match, 38 runs in second and 46 runs in the last game helping England to win the series. He was named Man of the Series for his outstanding batting in all three games. James has also played a match in T20 world cup and he replaced injured player Alex hales and scored 22 runs in the match against Afghanistan.
In May 2016, James was selected for Sri Lanka’s tour of England. He made his debut in the series in May 2016. In the series, James was not too good with his bat; he scored only 54 runs in a 3 match series. He also played a T20 match and scored 16 run and England won the match by eight wickets on hand. James got the opportunity to play in the final ODI as well, he replaced injured Alex Hales. James scored 51 runs and helped England to reach a total of 324 runs. England won the ODI by 122 runs in hand.
James was again selected for test series against Pakistan. In his first match, he scored 58 runs in two innings, but England lost the match by 75 runs. He made only 18 run in the second test and England made a total of 589/8 and won the match. In the third test, James made 39 in first innings and 42 in the second. In the final match, he struggled to make runs.
In the ODI series against Bangladesh, James in first match scored 16 runs and England was able to win by 21 runs. In the second match, he made 5 runs. In the third and final match, James scored 32 and helped England to win match and series by 3-2.
In his international career, James has played 7 Test matches and has scored 212 runs. James has played 5 ODIs and has scored 104 and has a highest figure of 51 runs. Also in T20 Format, he has played 5 matches and has scored 163 runs.
