Jarvis Jarrel Jones is a professional American football player currently at the age of 26. He was born on the 13th of October in 1989. His home town is Columbus in the state of Georgia, in the United States of America. He is occupying the position of a linebacker and he’s got some impressive body features to help him with the task. He is 6 ft and 3 inches tall and he weighs 248 pounds.
Early life and career
Even though Jarvis was born in Columbus, he spend he was raised and grew up in both Lumpkin and Richland, Georgia. He went to the Carver High School in Columbus. It was then when he managed to lead his team to win a state title back in 2007. He was as a result rated to be a four-star recruit by the popular football press. Jones was affectionate about sports as a whole and not just football. To show for it, he was an all-state basketball player and he was even ranked to be the 59th high school prospect by the ESPN network.
His college career started in 2009 when he went to the University of Southern California. He was in the special team and he was also a backup player for the team of the University of Southern California Trojans. However, during a game he got a heavy neck injury and he was later diagnosed with a severe spinal stenosis. As a result, the doctors wouldn’t let him play for the team. Because of that he asked for a transfer in 2010 and he started playing for the Georgia Bulldogs. Despite of this misfortune, Jarvis went on to achieve some really impressive college career stats.
Professional career
His professional path started on the 25th of April back in 2013. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2013 NFL Draft. He was the 17th pick amongst all other players. He was competing for the position of a right outside linebacker. The players that he had to overcome were Jason Worilds and Terence Garvin. It was on the 8th of September when Jarvis played his first professional NFL game against the Titans of Tennessee. He managed to record two solo tackles.
As a result of his consistency during the 2013 season, Jarvis began the 2014 one as a starting right outside linebacker. On the 7th of September, 2014 he managed to land his first sack of the year. Despite his young age, he already has some impressive career highlights and awards. He got the SEC Defensive Player of the Year award back in 2012 and he managed to win the Jack Lambert Trophy. He also won the Premier Player of College Football Trophy in 2012.
Personal life
It is safe to say that Jarvis has had his fair share of misfortunes. Apart from the severe neck injury that could have cost him his career, his brother got murdered outside of a bar back in 2005. The date was the 9th of January. Jones has managed to sign an endorsement deal with Subway which surely brings in a considerable amount of money.
