Jason Jonathan Roy is an English cricketer who is one of the most important young cricketers in the present English side. He was born on 21st July 1990 at Durban, South Africa. His parents are Craig Roy and Chonell Roy. He has a sibling, his brother- Kristan Roy.
Jason Roy is South African by birth but moved to England alongwith his family at the age of 10 years. He attended Whitgift School. Roy has taken A-level examinations on the subject of Sports Science and Business but his immense interest for cricket saw him leave an opportunity to study at St. Mary’s University College and instead focus on playing cricket. He represented the Surrey Club in county cricket at the under 11 level and the under 19 levels.
Roy was also a member of the Pemberton Greenish Surrey Academy. He impressed as a batsman playing for Surrey against South Africa in the under 19 levels as well as showing prowess in county cricket. He made important contributions for the Surrey second team against well-established teams such as Hampshire.He was also in top form in the year 2008 against the same Hampshire side. JasonRoy made his One Day International Debut against Ireland on 8th May 2015. His T-20 debut was against India on 7th September 2014. He is a swashbuckling upper order cricketer who has a right handed batting style.
Jason Roy made his first class debut for the Surrey side in 2008. In the same year Roy won a scholarship to attend the Darren Lehmann academy at Adelaide, Australia. In Australia, Roy played club cricket for the Port Adelaide Cricket Club. In 2009, Roy showed his prowess as a batsman as he played a number of important innings and scored runs. His form and run scoring reached a peak in 2011, when he played three successive match winning innings against first class teams of repute such as Essex, Sussex and Durham.
In 2011, Roy did not have a particularly good season as he was part of both the A-team and the second teams for Surrey. His T-20 debut was with the Sydney Thunder team in the Big Bash League at Australia in 2015. He later joined the Sydney Sixers team in the 2016-17 seasons. 2014-15 saw Jason Roy debut for the national side playing T-20 against India and One Day International against Ireland.
In 2015 he was selected in the national side for the series against New Zealand and Australia. Although England fared badly, Roy showed his class during the entire series. Roy continued with his good form in the 2015-16 tours against Pakistan and South Africa. He was selected for the 2016 T-20 World Cup. Although Roy did not score much in his first match, he showed his skill and was in excellent form for the rest of the matches. His impeccable form continued in 2016 as he scored heavily against Sri Lanka. He was also instrumental in England winning the series against Bangladesh in 2016. Unconfirmed sources peg his net worth to be around 1 million dollars.
