Jencarlos Canela is an American actor, singer, songwriter, and musician with a net worth of approximately $5 million. He was born on April 21, 1988, in Miami, Florida, and is the older brother of actor Jason Canela. Fluent in both English and Spanish, Canela has become known internationally for his performances in telenovelas as well as for his musical talent.
At the age of 12, Jencarlos began his music career as the lead singer of the group Boom Boom Pop. After two years of success with the band, he decided to pursue a solo career in late 2002. Over the next several years, he performed at numerous international events including the Miss World beauty pageants in 2004 and 2005, the Latin Fiesta Festival in Toronto, Canada, and the Calle Ocho Festival in Miami. During this time, he also studied music and acting at the New World School of the Arts, from which he graduated with honors in May 2006.
Jencarlos Canela gained widespread recognition for his role as Ángel Salvador in the successful telenovela Más Sabe el Diablo (2009–2010), which also starred Gaby Espino and Miguel Varoni. He reprised his role in the follow-up television film Más Sabe el Diablo: El Primer Golpe, released in 2010.
In 2011, he starred alongside Carmen Villalobos in the Telemundo telenovela Mi Corazón Insiste. The series won "Novela of the Year" at Telemundo's 2012 Premios Tu Mundo, and Canela took home the award for "Favorite Lead Actor." In 2013, he co-starred with the late actress Mónica Spear in Pasión Prohibida. That same year, he won the "Favorite Lead Actor" award once again at Premios Tu Mundo.
Canela's growing popularity continued as he won "Artist of the Year" at the 2013 Premios Juventud. His hit song "I Love It" received the "Song of the Summer" award. In 2014, the music video for "I Love It" was nominated for "Video of the Year" at the Premio Lo Nuestro awards.
In 2006, Canela was selected by Ford Motor Company for its "Ride It Like a Ford" advertising campaign. He served as both a model and a singer, performing a jingle he personally wrote. The commercial aired throughout the United States.
Jencarlos Canela's first two albums, produced by Rudy Pérez at his studio in Miami Beach, were released under the independent label Bullseye Music Entertainment. His debut album "Búscame" launched in 2009 and debuted at #2 on the Billboard Latin chart. His second album, "Un Nuevo Día," was released in 2011 and entered the charts at #1 during its first week.
In 2012, he collaborated with Emilio Estefan on the song "Sueña" for Telemundo's coverage of the 2012 Summer Olympics. Though initially intended to serve as the official song of Miss America 2013, a contractual conflict with Telemundo led to its replacement by Pitbull’s "Don't Stop the Party." Later that year, Canela signed a record deal with Universal Music Latin Entertainment, further establishing himself in the Latin music industry.
