The December born Anglo-American stage artist, Jennifer Anne Ehle, was born in the humid subtropical city of Winston-Salem situated in the county of North Carolina, United States. She is a hybrid child between her English actress mother, Rosemary Harris and author dad, John Ehle, of American origin.
Merely a toddler, Ehle started her career back in the 1970’s, with theatrical stints like ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ starring alongside her star mother. She was fortunate to receive the goodness and learning from both the American as well as the English kind of cultures due to the origin of her parents. She attended drama schools both in the US (North Carolina School of Arts) and the UK (Central School of Speech & Drama).
Ehle, according to her biography, has worked for a vast array of movies, plays and production houses including her Ian Charleson Award winner performance in the 1991 West End debut ‘Tartuffe’. Thereafter, ‘Paradise Road’ became her first feature motion picture following which she did a couple of other award winning plays on Broadway.
‘The Philadelphia Story’ in the year 2005, after a brief sabbatical followed by Shakespeare’s horror/drama Macbeth where she played a key role and other films like the American-Indian co-venture called ‘Before the Rains, ‘The Russell Girl’ by CBS and ‘Pride & Glory’ made significant contributions to her career.
Ehle tied the knot with Michael Scott Ryan in 2001 and they bore two children. The ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ CIA officer’s uncanny resemblance to the iconic Hollywood star Meryl Streep has been the talk of the town for a long time now. Although many speculators might want to believe the fact that the two multi-talented divas are not really blood related, it is quite hard to register. They have very similar features but are in fact just friends.
The BAFTA award winner comes across as an extremely versatile and adaptable artist. She has always been overruling the predictions of others in every way possible be it theatre or the movies. Having switched 14 schools during her education, she has a keen eye for changing cultures and is very flexible to change. Ehle grew up with an American accent due to her North Carolina background but is also known as the young & vibrant Meryl Streep look-alike and a quintessential blossoming English rose. In her interviews she makes it very clear that, although the variety of schools did teach her a lot, she wouldn’t want her children to go through the same tedious migration.
Ehle was supposed to be part of the popular action drama TV series ‘Game of Thrones’ on HBO as Catelyn Stark, the dynamic wife of Eddard Stark and brave mother of Robb Stark. It is a television adaptation of the brilliantly written fantasy book called ‘A Song of Ice & Fire’ by the thought provoking author George R.R.Martin. However, after shooting for the first pilot episode, Ehle decided against it and in favor of her baby daughter who needed her attention & care. Michelle Fairley replaced Ehle for this long running role on the show.
