Jessica Rose Brown Findlay is an English actress most notably known for her portrayal of Lady Sybil Crawley in the television period drama series Downton Abbey. Jessica Brown Findlay was born on September 14, 1989, in Cookham, United Kingdom. Her mother was a nurse and a teacher’s aide and her father worked in finance. Growing up, Jessica trained with the National Youth Ballet and the Associates of the Royal Ballet.
When she was fifteen years old, Jessica was invited to dance with the Kirov at the Royal Opera House for a summer season. An ankle injury that caused her to endure three operations ended Jessica’s dancing career and she switched her attention to acting. Jessica earned her Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Media Studies and Sociology from Staffordshire University. Jessica Brown’s first major role was the lead in Albatross, a 2011 comedy drama in which she portrayed Emilia Conan-Doyle. Recently, Brown portrayed Charlotte Wells, the daughter of a brothel owner, in the television series Harlots which premiered in 2017. She also worked in the independent film The Beautiful Fantastic, as Bella Brown, an abandoned young girl who forms a new life through her relationships with a neighbor, a cook, and an inventor.
