John Samuel Waters Jr. was born on April 22, 1946 in Baltimore, Maryland. He is most known for being an American film director, actor, and visual artist but he has had many roles in his career. Throughout his long portfolio, he has been a screenwriter, author, actor, stand-up comedian, journalist, visual artist, and art collector. His biggest claim to fame occurred during the 1970s when he released many cult classic films.
His satirical and raunchy movies have gained him a lot of fans. His style flips art and popular culture around and really expresses his unique style. During college, he went to NYU for film but was expelled from the campus when he was caught smoking marijuana. Some of the most important films on his resume are Pink Flamingos (1972) and Female Trouble (1974) but his most famous one is Hairspray (1988). His art style has made a mark in the movies he has produced.
