Jonathan Taylor Thomas was born as Jonathan Taylor Weiss on September 18, 1981 in Pennsylvania. His parents are Claudine and Stephen Weiss. He has an older brother named Joel. He is of mixed ancestry which includes German and Portuguese. His mixed ancestry was not very public, even his most dedicated fans thought he was just white. Just by first appearance, he looks like a regular white male. If you look closer, you can see the Portuguese side in him.
Jonathan’s parents filed for divorce in 1989 when he was only eight years old. The divorce came at a time when Jonathan had just begun to rise in his career in the acting world. When he left Harvard, he spent another year of college at St. Andrews University in Scotland. In 2010, he finally finished his college career and graduated from Columbia University.
Career
At the age of seven, Jonathan worked with a print advertising company as a model in Sacramento. That was the encouragement that he needed because the positive feedback assured him that he would be able to make it as a child actor. After his stint as model, he did a lot of TV commercials for a lot of nationally known and brand name products such as Kellogg Cereals and Mattel toys. Getting his face on kid friendly merchandise was an important step in his career.

He was able to get a huge break in 1990 when he landed a key role on the TV family sitcom, Home Improvement. The show’s main star was Tim Allen who was a popular comedian before the show. The show’s writers and producers wanted to write stories based on Allen’s comedic bits. On the show, Allen played a tool man who had his own instructional TV show. He had a quirky partner and a beautiful assistant to help him on his show. When he would go back home, the TV audience would get to see him interact with his wife and three kids. Jonathan played the middle song and gained a large following among young girls because his friendly and cute look.
Jonathan’s success on Home Improvement opened the door for movie roles. He played the voice of Simba in the Disney classic, The Lion King. Just having those two credits alone would make any actor happy. To this day, those two projects are remembered fondly by fans all over the world.
Jonathan also started in films like Man of the House, The Adventures of Pinocchio, Tom, and Huck; I’ll be Home for Christmas, and Wild America.
